Who’s the Biggest Loser now?
Oh Jillian, say it ain’t so!
I just read this newsbite that a woman is suing Biggest Loser trainer Jillian Michaels for false advertising. It appears that a woman bought diet supplement pills (Michaels is the celebrity spokesperson) and the pills did not help her to lose weight. So she’s doing what Americans like to do best….she’s suing.
I like Jillian Michaels, I really do. Her tough-love approach, her kick ass workouts (I have some of her videos at home) and her desire to help REAL people and not celebrities. I was extremely disheartened while watching the BL last season to see that she was advertising a line of protein shakes and diet supplements during commercial time. It struck me as odd that someone SO in tune with fitness, and health, would do this. She above anyone else knows that quick-fixes such as diet pills and shakes DON’T WORK, and most often give the dieter a sense of false hope (and they can often be dangerous!). Obviously I don’t know Michaels personally, and I don’t want to presume that she lended her celebrity mug to dieting aids for the money…but hey, it seems like a logical step.
As for the dieter suing…yes, I think the lawsuit is a bit extreme, but so is taking diet pills thinking that those will help you lose weight and keep it off, healthfully. This country needs MORE diet EDUCATION and less dieting! Sheesh.
Here’s a solution: Jillian Michaels should personally train this woman to teach her what proper nutrition and exercise are…and help her achieve her weight loss goals, and feel GREAT about herself.
