Food, Inc

urlPlease, Please, Please go see this movie. It opens in select theaters on Friday, and it will open your eyes to what is happening with our food system. Why the title “Food, Inc?” Because what we eat, our nourishment, is run as a business and controlled by a few major corporations.  And if this continues, our health and wellbeing, and that of the planet we live on, is doomed.

You’ll see a family that has to eat fast food because they cannot afford to buy pears. You’ll get a glimpse of what factory farming is. And there are even cute cartoons! And most importantly you’ll learn ways to help (for instance, going meatless just one day a week is an excellent way to reduce your carbon footprint)

Here is a really great interview with Michael Pollan on Real Time with Bill Maher, summarizing the points covered in the movie:

So, again, I urge you to seek out this movie and see it.  Especially if these topics are new to you, this is a expertly crafted crash course in Food economics 101.  Because truly your life depends on it!
